Domino Server Tools - in a nutshell
Category: server management, IBM Lotus Domino
Target group: administrators
Producer: CS Development

The Domino Server Tools solution facilitates the administration of databases on Domino servers.
  • Lotus Notes/Domino system monitoring
  • automatic data collection and evaluation
  • reacting to problems
  • the application has been developed within the Lotus Notes environment

Key benefits
Simplifying database administration on the Domino 6 server
This solution offers automatic monitoring of each system part on Lotus Domino Version 6, automated collection and evaluation of data and the possibility of reacting to problems that may be identified. Significantly facilitating the system administration, this automated application is intended for all administrators in charge of Domino Cluster or larger numbers of corporate databases run on multiple servers.

Technical description
The application has been created in the Lotus Notes environment and comprises the following 4 core databases:

1. profiles database (all system parameters are set here)

2. logs database (used for entering information on the application's activity)

3. reports database (used for entering results)

4. database of reports on agents within the system (separated from ordinary reports because the quantity of data is large)

In terms of functions and features, we can break the application down to altogether seven function modules:

ACL Module
Checks whether database replicas on various servers have identical ACLs. Provides detailed reports on differences in the respective ACL data, if any.

ACL Stamp Module
Makes it possible to set ACL in databases en masse, including roles and the administration server.

DocCount Module
Checks whether database replicas have identical numbers of documents (also within adjustable limits, e.g., 10 documents).

CLDBDIR Module
Regularly scans the system database cldbdir.nsf (according to which the cluster finds out how to operate) and informs the user of deficiencies, if any (for example: a database only has a replica on one of the servers in a cluster, a database is present in various directories, there are more identical replicas on one server, etc.).

StatRep Module
Scans the system database statrep.nsf and puts together error messages over the last 24 hours (this parameter is adjustable), making an easy-to-survey record. The module is also able to identify errors that have not occurred since the previous run and those that are reported for the first time.

History Cleaner Module
Can delete the replication history and "cut-off dates" en masse, which is in case of a problem with unsynchronised databases.

Agent Monitor
Scans all databases, acquires information on agents and enters the same to an easy-to-survey structure. Also scans the log.nsf file for traffic over the past 24 hours (this parameter is adjustable), looks for reports on activated agents, their error messages, etc. and enters them to each agent's profile.
