In a nutshell Client: key domestic player in chemical technology Number of users: thousands Solution area: antivirus protection, content filtering Products applied: Symantec MailSecurity for Lotus Domino, Lotus Notes / Domino Implementation time: 1 week Initial status The client has an extensive technological base – tens of servers and thousands of workstations at several local branch offices. It is obvious that safety is a key precondition for smooth operation of the information system in large computer networks of comparable size. The client used a number of mutually independent antivirus products. The inconsistent antivirus solution proved to be insufficient mainly in terms of stabile safety and the need of unified and transparent administration. Last but not least, one of the arguments for a new system was that the client did not have outgoing e-mails under proper control. We suggested that the base for our solution should be Symantec MailFiltering for Lotus Domino. The solution combines antivirus and anti-spam features and enables efficient content-based filtration of incoming and outgoing e-mail messages. The main advantages in the context of extensive computer networks include robustness, stability and the possibility of setting up transparent central administration. Implementation description Prior to the installation, the project team analysed the task and defined the following solution parameters: selecting a platform selecting and locating the primary server selecting a quarantine mode (method of installing the quarantine server) selecting a method of distributing virus definitions updating and upgrading policy way of reacting to infected messages (quarantine, deletion...) setting the type and scope of outputs fixing rules for undesired content handling (AVI, MP3, etc.) method of regular checks of workstations The solution was then applied on the server side (installation of appropriate server components), as well as on the workstation side. The implementation included the adjustment of all of the above key parameters. The final stage of the implementation involved training of administrators and system users. CS Development provides the client with full technical support within routine operation. The installation of the said system provided an end-to-end antivirus solution for the client's infrastructure and prevented potential leaks of information from the company. The solution makes it possible to monitor the occurrence of selected key words in all outgoing messages. When such a word is found, the system can take a defined action.
