Wirme (Wireless e2e Measurement) is a data networks telemetry system using the endpoint measuring method. The system concept is based on requirements regarding checks of the operating efficiency of data transmissions at end user level.
 
Technical description
The actual measuring is performed by a system of test scenarios using basic communication protocols (FTP, HTTP, POP3, SMTP, PING, DIG).

The system is designed primarily for measuring of wireless GPRS data networks, but can also be used for measuring of other types of networks, such as CDMA, Wi-Fi, WLan, UMTS.

The concept is based on the use of an area-wide stationary measuring network (covering the operator's infrastructure - SGSN, BTS, etc.) made up of autonomous measuring units (wirmeUNIT). The measuring units can also be used for mobile measuring technology (e.g. measuring vehicles) or for lab tests of communication hardware.

Each measuring unit is an independent measuring system that automatically sends pre-processed data to a central server (wirmeDELIVERY). As the communication between the measuring unit and the central server is wireless, the measuring unit is completely independent, i.e., does not have to be wire-connected to the data network.

Besides the data channel, the measuring unit communicates through an SMS system acting as a remote control (using SMS commands, e.g., identifying unit status including signal quality, software upgrades, etc.). The SMS communication also features a system of alerts (e.g. in case of data connection failures).
 
Further development
The wirme system is being continuously developed, primarily in the following areas:

CDMA and UMTS network measuring
specialised units for laboratory measuring (multi-port)
specialised units for mobile measuring (GPS units installations)
creating preconditions for the use of internal measuring software and optimisation of such software
developing wirmeCONTROL (central control application)
 
Reference implementation projects
The system is currently in routine operation at tens of locations throughout the Czech Republic, directly connected to NMCs (supervisory centres) and teams responsible for QM (data network quality).
